MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY
Hope Interactive/WFPSDI organized an event at Damaturu City College Pawari to commemorate this day. The event targeted girls from JSS1-3, providing them with a lecture covering essential topics such as practicing and maintaining personal hygiene, staying clean during menstruation, using sanitary pads correctly, and proper washing of undergarments. The aim was to educate the students on simple techniques of avoiding unpleasant smells, germs, and bacteria. Each student received a pack of Molped sanitary pads, containing 10 pieces. While some girls had prior knowledge of menstruation, others were introduced to the topic for the first time. The event incorporated placards with quotes on menstrual hygiene to enhance visibility and effectively convey the importance of maintaining menstrual health.
SUPPORTING SURVIVORS TO RECOVER IN DIGNITY
Survivors of abandonment, domestic abuse and denial of resources graduated from skills acquisition training in Women and Girls Dignity Center with Hope Interactive supporting them with transportation allowances.
They center empowered them with startup kits tailored to their chosen fields of business such as sewing machines and soap making ingredients upon completion of the skills acquisition programmed, necessary to kick start their independent ventures.
IN-HOUSE CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING
Hope Interactive had an in-house capacity building for staff in the protection and legal department on Gender based Violence in Emergencies (GBVIE), Facilitated by Mercy Kwoseh, a legal practitioner and a program officer.
Day 1.
Topic: The humanitarian principles
Attendance of 10 persons
Duration: 2hrs
The principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence are fundamental to humanitarian action.
Humanity means that human suffering must be addressed wherever it is found, with particular attention to the most vulnerable.
Neutrality means that humanitarian aid must not favor any side in an armed conflict or other dispute.
Impartiality means that humanitarian aid must be provided solely on the basis of need, without discrimination.
Independence means the autonomy of humanitarian objectives from political, economic, military or other objectives.
Day 2.
Topic: Case Management
Attendance of 7 people
Duration: 2hrs
GBV Case management is a collaborative process that engages a range of service providers to meet a survivor’s immediate needs and support short and long-term recovery. Issues and problems facing a survivor and her/his family are identified Survivors are informed of all the options available to them Survivors needs are followed up in a coordinated. Survivors are provided with emotional support throughout the process.
Day 3.
Topic: Community Engagement
Attendance of 7 people.
Duration: 2hrs
Community Engagement is the process of stakeholders working together to build resilience through collaborative action, shared capacity building and the development of strong relationships built on mutual trust and respect. When citizens participate meaningfully In community issues, they can take ownership and see that the desired results are achieved.
