      Overview of Hope Interactive

      Hope Interactive has been at the forefront of community empowerment since its inception in 2001. It strives to identify local initiatives and catalyze them. The organization has developed a multifaceted approach to uplift communities by focusing on peace building, education, healthcare; youth and women development, community development and a host of others.

      PEACE-BUILDING: Hope Interactive has been at the forefront of the conflict transformation in the northeast of Nigeria with its unique approach through youth and women focused peace programming. Through networking (Youth peace platforms YPP & Women for peace community association and women peace hub), capacity building; women and youth led peace learning exchange; provision of Psychosocial support to at risk youth; mentor-mentee interactive session; sensitization using radio programs; sports; community outreaches and sanitation; peace education; reconciliation and reintegration of youth in conflict with their parents; reintegration of ex-combatants and people associated with the conflict, Hope Interactive has contributed immensely in stabilizing communities in the nation. Hope interactive have settle intra faith and interfaith conflicts; communal disputes utilizing alternative dispute resolution (ADR); facilitated signing of peace agreements (accords) among farmers, herders and fishermen through dialogue. Hope interactive has conducted over 3,000 dialogue sessions in the region especially dialogue between youths/women & community/religious leaders; youth/women & duty bearers; community & security; inter & intra communal dialogues, which has led to increased community cohesion & repair of frayed social fabrics, facilitating peaceful co-existence. Hope Interactive has also been at the forefront of the intellectual war against violent extremism through its PCVE (preventing/countering violent extremism) programming.

      In the realm of education, Hope Interactive has over the years has been at the fore front of the mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery through the 15 years of the insurgency in northeast of Nigeria, which started with a vision to promote educational recovery in stable conditions and with dignity by improving the quality of education through creation of a conducive and safe environment for learning for both school children and teachers in Yobe state, northeast of Nigeria. The education department of Hope Interactive implements its education in Emergencies program. The following have been achieved so far:

      • Provision of school desks, uniforms, school bags, notebooks, biro, pencils, erasers, sharpener, ruler for students and pupils.
      • Provide extracurricular activity materials (skipping rope, tug of war rope, football, volley ball, table tennis) to strengthen physical education and Psychosocial support (PSS).
      • Sports events and Fixing/repair of football goal posts, volley ball nets etc.
      • Guidance and counselling (Carrier talk)
      • Mentor-mentee interactive session.
      • Engagement of students in quiz, debate, spelling bee etc.
      • Provision of table, sits, biro and necessary teaching aid for teachers.
      • Capacity building for teachers on conflict sensitive education; how to identify and handle vulnerable children; safeguarding; early warning and safety advisory; Psychosocial support (PSS) & psychological first aid; Stress management; child protection.
      • Conducting research, dialogues, consultative workshops with teachers and relevant stakeholders with a view to developing policy briefs to support decision making for Yobe state ministry of Education and other related agencies.

      (10) Promoting innovative approaches to education through establishment and strengthening of peace clubs and peace initiatives in schools in Yobe state.

      (12) Educational outreaches to nomadic schools, IDPs in camps (unofficial) and host communities.

      (13) Conduct sensitization on the need for girl child education and children with special needs.

      Hope Interactive has provided financial support to underprivileged students in tertiary institutions. Additionally, the organization has been instrumental in ensuring that children have access to quality education. Literacy campaigns are another cornerstone of our educational efforts, emphasizing the importance of basic reading and writing skills for all age groups.

      HEALTH: Healthcare initiatives by Hope Interactive are equally robust. The health and WASH department of Hope Interactive have worked within communities in the north east ranging from provision of essential drugs, construction of emergency toilets, basic disease surveillance; sensitization on malaria, cholera and monkey pox; hygiene promotion and promotion of accountability in health facilities through community led monitoring.

      Health awareness drives are organized to educate communities about preventive measures and healthy living practices. Furthermore, partnerships with local clinics and primary health care facilities have been established to provide system and structure strengthening and support for complex health issues. Hope Interactive through its surveillance team have identified numerous cases of Buruli Ulcer, which is taking the lives of locals in southern Yobe. These initiatives have significantly improved the overall health and well-being of the communities served.

      COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: Community development projects are a testament to Hope Interactive’s commitment to holistic growth. Vocational training programs have been designed to equip youth and women with skills that enhance their employability and foster economic independence. VSLA and OVC program and capacity building in micro-business skills Infrastructure development, such as the construction of drainages, construction of incinerators, meeting centers; business centers, installation of borehole pumps, has further strengthened the social fabric of these communities. In times of crisis, the organization has been quick to respond with disaster relief efforts, providing immediate assistance and long-term rehabilitation support. Other prominent areas include governance and leadership; agricultural extension and development.

      SDG: The sustainable development goals (SDG) department has implemented a couple of activities and projects. Hope Interactive is guided by the sphere project handbook in implementing its SGD goals. The sphere project hand book is a humanitarian charter, which spells out the core and minimum standards for humanitarian response and a set of protection principles. We also employ its two basic approaches: Rights based approach and beneficiary centered approach. We are also guided by the protection principles which require that we do no further harm; target the most vulnerable and ensure that communities recover in stable conditions. Activities implemented includes food security and nutrition (goal 2); sensitization on climate change and climate smart agricultural and domestic practices (goal 13 and 7).

      The impact of these programs and initiatives is profound and far-reaching. Testimonials from beneficiaries highlight the transformative power of Hope Interactive’s work. One of such testimonial comes from Carlos, community leaders, the principal of Government secondary school Damaturu who received enormous educational support for both staff and students.

      Success stories emerging from project implementation like REYS (revamping education in Yobe state), formation of youth peace platforms and women peace hubs, signing of peace accords underscore the organization’s ability to make a tangible difference. Through careful planning and dedicated implementation, Hope Interactive continues to empower communities, fostering hope, resilience, and buoyancy for a brighter and sustainable future.
